On Wednesday, 28 February 2018, in the evening at 20:12, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 100.80), an Audi 80 rolled over. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 29-year-old driver of the Audi, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.17‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. A 28-year-old passenger of the Audi was drunk (1.30‰). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
