On Sunday, 8 April 2018, in the evening at 19:40, in Šilalės district municipality, Gatautiškės village, on the Telšiai–Varniai–Laukuva national road (kilometre 41.82), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a vehicle, a Honda Civic 5DR and a Volkswagen Passat. Three people were injured — the 49-year-old driver of the Honda (treated as an outpatient), a 19-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient) and a 24-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the driver of a vehicle, who violated overtaking rules. He fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
