On Tuesday, 24 April 2018, in the afternoon at around 15:00, in Šilutės district municipality, on Dariaus ir Girėno street near No. 19, at a pedestrian crossing, a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved an Audi 80 and a Volkswagen Passat. One person was injured — the 47-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 29-year-old driver of the Audi, who violated overtaking rules. He was drunk (2.60‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. A 31-year-old passenger of the Audi was drunk (3.08‰). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 40 km/h.
