On Sunday, 12 August 2018, in the evening at 18:29, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 103.70), a collision with a stationary vehicle occurred. The collision involved a Volvo V70 and a Toyota Corolla Verso. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 45-year-old driver of the Volvo (18 years of driving experience), who violated overtaking rules. He was drunk (2.57‰ blood alcohol).
