On Saturday, 29 September 2018, at night at around 0:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Varėna–Matuizos–Valkininkai regional road (kilometre 7.38), a BMW ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 22-year-old driver of the BMW, who failed to choose a safe speed. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
