On Saturday, 20 October 2018, in the evening at around 20:00, in Širvintų district municipality, on the Kiaukliai–Vaitkuškė regional road (kilometre 1.30), a Volkswagen Transporter rolled over. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 31-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.17‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, there was fog, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
