On Thursday, 20 December 2018, in the evening at 22:35, in Rietavo municipality, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (k. pusė) main road (kilometre 257.50), a Scania R500 hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 42-year-old driver of the Scania R500 (24 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 110 km/h.
