On Friday, 28 December 2018, in the evening at 18:50, in Kaunas, on Taikos pr. near No. 81, a Toyota Prius hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. One person died — a 52-year-old pedestrian (later died from the injuries). The accident was caused by the 43-year-old driver of the Toyota (21 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
