On Saturday, 9 February 2019, at night at 23:50, in Rietavo municipality, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 259), a BMW 520I registered in Belarus ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 35-year-old driver of the BMW (15 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 110 km/h.
