On Saturday, 21 September 2019, in the morning at 10:04, in Šilutės district municipality, on the Sakūčiai–Žemaitkiemis regional road (kilometre 3.20), a Volvo S70 hit an obstacle. Two people died — the 30-year-old driver of the Volvo and a 30-year-old passenger of the Volvo (was not wearing a seatbelt). One person was injured — a 19-year-old passenger of the Volvo (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt). The accident was caused by the 30-year-old driver of the Volvo (10 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.76‰ blood alcohol). A 30-year-old passenger of the Volvo was drunk (2.65‰). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
