On Wednesday, 1 January 2020, in the evening at 21:40, in Alytaus district municipality, Verebiejų village, on Taikos street near No. 66, a Volkswagen Passat hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person was injured — a 57-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 44-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (24 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations. She fled the scene. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
