On Sunday, 17 May 2020, in the evening at 17:14, in Mažeikių district municipality, Žemalės village, on Sodelės street near No. 50, a Polaris registered in Great Britain hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person was injured — a 29-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 31-year-old driver of the Polaris, who failed to keep a safe distance. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 20 km/h.
