On Wednesday, 16 September 2020, in the afternoon at 16:20, in Utenos district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugpilis main road (kilometre 143.70), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved a Subaru Forester, a Volkswagen Passat and an Opel Zafira. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 52-year-old driver of the Subaru (30 years of driving experience), who violated overtaking rules. He fled the scene. All drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
