On Friday, 18 June 2021, in the afternoon at 15:01, in Rietavo municipality, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 256.10), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen, a Wiola - and a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Two people were injured — the 22-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (hospitalized) and a 15-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 24-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (4 years of driving experience), who fell asleep at the wheel. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 130 km/h.
