On Friday, 30 July 2021, in the evening at 20:26, in Zarasų district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugpilis main road (kilometre 26), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Peugeot 407 and a Volkswagen Multivan registered in Latvia. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 54-year-old driver of the Peugeot (4 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. He was drunk (2.76‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
