On Saturday, 18 December 2021, in the afternoon at around 15:00, in Šilalės district municipality, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 209.95), a Volkswagen Touran ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 54-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (26 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (3.21‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 110 km/h.
