On Tuesday, 17 May 2022, in the evening at 17:15, in Kalvarijos municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 79), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a DAF FAR XF105.410 registered in Poland, a Volkswagen Passat registered in Poland, a Schwarzmuller registered in Poland, a Neoplan N 516, a Mercedes-Benz Actros 1841 registered in Poland and a trailer/semi-trailer > 10 t. Two people were injured — a 32-year-old passenger of the Neoplan (treated as an outpatient) and the 37-year-old driver of the Neoplan (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 29-year-old driver of the DAF (10 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. All drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
