On Tuesday, 6 December 2022, at night at 4:08, in Kelmės district municipality, on the Ryga–Šiauliai–Tauragė–Kaliningradas main road (kilometre 114.35), a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 313 CDI hit an obstacle. Two people died — a 30-year-old passenger of the Mercedes-Benz and a 43-year-old passenger of the Mercedes-Benz. Three people were injured — the 33-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (treated as an outpatient), a 46-year-old passenger of the Mercedes-Benz (hospitalized) and a 39-year-old passenger of the Mercedes-Benz (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 33-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (3 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, there was fog, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
