On Tuesday, 1 August 2023, in the afternoon at 14:10, in Kalvarijos municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 88), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved an Opel Zafira and an Audi A6 registered in Poland. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 64-year-old driver of the Opel (30 years of driving experience), who violated overtaking rules. He fled the scene. Both drivers were sober.
