On Monday, 1 July 2024, in the afternoon at 12:08, in Kalvarijos municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 76.65), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a DAF, a Schmitz Cargobull, a Scania R560 registered in Poland, a trailer/semi-trailer 3.5–10 t, a Scania and a Schmitz Cargobull registered in Poland. One person died — the 23-year-old driver of the DAF. One person was injured — the 52-year-old driver of the Scania R560 (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 23-year-old driver of the DAF (2 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 130 km/h.
