On Sunday, 1 September 2024, in the afternoon at 16:53, in Kretingos district municipality, on the Voveraičiai–Šukė regional road (kilometre 5.45), a collision with a motorcycle occurred. The collision involved an Opel Astra, a Yamaha YZF-R1 registered in Germany and a Suzuki GSX-R 750. Two people died — the 49-year-old driver of the Opel and the 27-year-old driver of the Suzuki. Three people were injured — the 27-year-old driver of the Yamaha (hospitalized), a 38-year-old passenger of the Opel (hospitalized) and a 16-year-old passenger of the Opel (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 49-year-old driver of the Opel (18 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when changing direction. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
