On Tuesday, 1 January 2013, in the evening at 18:48, in Plungės district municipality, Truikių village, on the Mažeikiai–Plungė–Tauragė national road (kilometre 52.80), a BMW 520 hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 70-year-old pedestrian (later died from the injuries). The accident was caused by a 70-year-old pedestrian, who was walking at night without reflectors (light, hi-vis vest) and was walking on the carriageway where prohibited. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
