On Monday, 7 January 2013, in the evening at 18:35, in Kauno district municipality, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (k. pusė) main road (kilometre 126.25), an Audi A6 Avant hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 53-year-old pedestrian. The accident was caused by a 53-year-old pedestrian, who was crossing the carriageway outside a crossing where there are vehicle or pedestrian barriers and was walking at night without reflectors (light, hi-vis vest). The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
