On Friday, 11 January 2013, in the afternoon at 14:24, in Šilalės district municipality, on the Mažeikiai–Plungė–Tauragė national road (kilometre 104), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved an Audi 80 Avant and a Toyota Land Cruiser. Two people were injured — a 62-year-old passenger of the Audi (severely injured, hospitalized) and the 59-year-old driver of the Toyota (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 64-year-old driver of the Audi (25 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober.
