Audi and Toyota crash on the Mažeikiai–Plungė–Tauragė road
On Friday, 11 January 2013, in the afternoon at 14:24, in Šilalės district municipality, on the Mažeikiai–Plungė–Tauragė national road (kilometre 104), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved an Audi 80 Avant and a Toyota Land Cruiser. Two people were injured — a 62-year-old passenger of the Audi (severely injured, hospitalized) and the 59-year-old driver of the Toyota (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 64-year-old driver of the Audi (25 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
