On Tuesday, 8 January 2013, in the evening at around 17:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 85), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a vehicle and a Volkswagen Golf. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by an unidentified person, who committed other traffic rule violations. He fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was twilight, the weather was clear, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
