On Thursday, 17 January 2013, in the afternoon at 12:48, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Žagarė–Juodeikiai–Šakyna regional road (kilometre 21.50), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Ford Mondeo and a Mercedes-Benz E200. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 46-year-old driver of the Ford, who violated overtaking rules and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.29‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, there was fog, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
