On Friday, 18 January 2013, in the afternoon at 13:35, in Marijampolės municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 45.19), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz O 614, a Krone 130 ZK (ACKERWAGEN) registered in Latvia, a Renault Magnum 480 registered in Russia, an Audi 80 Avant, a Schmitz S01 and a Mercedes-Benz 1844 LS registered in Latvia. One person was injured — the 51-year-old driver of the Audi (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 41-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz O 614 (24 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
