On Monday, 21 January 2013, in the evening at 18:30, in Šiaulių district municipality, Meškių village, on the Ryga–Šiauliai–Tauragė–Kaliningradas (kelio ruožo su skir. juosta d. pusė) main road (kilometre 64.32), a Skoda Superb hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 52-year-old pedestrian. The accident was caused by a 52-year-old pedestrian, who was walking at night without reflectors (light, hi-vis vest) and was walking on the carriageway where prohibited. He was drunk (3.34‰ blood alcohol). The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
