On Friday, 25 January 2013, in the afternoon at around 14:00, in Kauno district municipality, Giraitės village, on Topolių street, at the junction with Akacijų street, a side collision with neither vehicle turning occurred. The collision involved a Citroen Xantia and a Ford Transit. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 37-year-old driver of the Citroen (20 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when crossing an intersection and failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
