On Sunday, 10 February 2013, in the evening at 22:36, in Plungės district municipality, on the Mažeikiai–Plungė–Tauragė national road (kilometre 42.43), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Nissan Primera and a BMW 520. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 32-year-old driver of the Nissan, who entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (2.13‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
