On Tuesday, 12 March 2013, in the evening at 18:30, in Birštono municipality, on the Vilnius–Prienai–Marijampolė main road (kilometre 89), a Mercedes-Benz E290 ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 34-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (a citizen of Moldova) (7 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
