On Saturday, 13 April 2013, at night at 23:55, in Klaipėda, on Šilutės pl., at the junction with Debreceno street, a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved an Opel Vectra and a Mercedes-Benz 200. Two people were injured — a 28-year-old passenger of the Mercedes-Benz (treated as an outpatient) and the 49-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 19-year-old driver of the Opel, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.19‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
