On Saturday, 13 April 2013, in the evening at around 19:00, in Lazdijų district municipality, Barčiūnų village, on the Druskininkai–Leipalingis–Seirijai national road (kilometre 22.75), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Golf and an Audi 80. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 23-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who violated overtaking rules and entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (2.67‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
