On Sunday, 19 May 2013, at night at 2:30, in Varėnos district municipality, on J. Basanavičiaus street, at the junction with Šiltnamių street, a Saab 9-3 ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 30-year-old driver of the Saab, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (0.92‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
