On Sunday, 23 June 2013, at night at 2:19, in Šakių district municipality, on the Rupinai–Jadagoniai–Pavilkijys–Kriūkai regional road (kilometre 8.60), a Volkswagen Sharan hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 24-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (less than a year of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.54‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
