On Saturday, 13 July 2013, at night at around 3:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Kiti keliai local road (kilometre 1), a BMW 318 ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 25-year-old driver of the BMW (4 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.05‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
