On Sunday, 21 July 2013, in the afternoon at 15:45, in Utenos district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugpilis main road (kilometre 148.70), an Audi 100 registered in Latvia hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 36-year-old driver of the Audi (13 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance and entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
