On Saturday, 3 August 2013, in the afternoon at 14:16, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Ryga–Šiauliai–Tauragė–Kaliningradas (kelio ruožo su skir. juosta d. pusė) main road (kilometre 61.56), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a BMW 520 and a Volkswagen Sharan. One person died — a 62-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen. One person was injured — the 63-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 32-year-old driver of the BMW (13 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (3.94‰ blood alcohol). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
