On Monday, 28 October 2013, in the evening at 18:15, in Raseinių district municipality, on the Šiluva–Lyduvėnai regional road (kilometre 10), a Volkswagen Transporter hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 69-year-old pedestrian. One person was injured — a 54-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 29-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (4 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.71‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was overcast, a strong wind was blowing, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
