On Saturday, 16 November 2013, in the evening at around 21:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Varėna–Rudnia–Paramėlis–Katra regional road (kilometre 12), an Audi 80 ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 39-year-old driver of the Audi, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.30‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
