On Wednesday, 11 December 2013, in the evening at around 17:00, in Marijampolės municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 65.30), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Opel Corsa and a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 313 CDI registered in Belarus. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 20-year-old driver of the Opel (2 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed and entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (1.80‰ blood alcohol). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
