On Saturday, 1 March 2014, in the evening at 22:35, in Klaipėdos district municipality, on the Kaunas–Jurbarkas–Šilutė–Klaipėda national road (kilometre 227.65), a collision occurred. The collision involved a Toyota Avensis and a Volkswagen Passat. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 16-year-old driver of the Toyota, who exceeded the speed set by traffic rules or road signs, committed other traffic rule violations, failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
