Drunk Volkswagen driver and Neoplan bus crash on the Utena–Kaltanėnai–Švenčionys road
On Saturday, 5 April 2014, in the afternoon at 15:54, in Švenčionių district municipality, on the Utena–Kaltanėnai–Švenčionys national road (kilometre 65), a collision occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Golf and a Neoplan N 316. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 29-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (5 years of driving experience), who failed to comply with road signs or markings and failed to give way when crossing an intersection. He was drunk (2.04‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
