On Saturday, 19 July 2014, in the evening at 20:23, in Lazdijų district municipality, on the Alytus–Simnas–Kalvarija national road (kilometre 32.14), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Mazda 121 and a Mercedes-Benz 1844 LS registered in Poland. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 37-year-old driver of the Mazda, who committed other traffic rule violations, failed to choose a safe speed and entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (2.66‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. A 35-year-old passenger of the Mazda was drunk (2.75‰). At the time of the accident it was twilight, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
