On Saturday, 23 August 2014, in the afternoon at 14:30, in Kauno district municipality, Pažėrų village, on the Kazlų Rūda–Pažėrai regional road (kilometre 15.48), a Rover 416 hit an obstacle. Five people died — the 26-year-old driver of the Rover, a 41-year-old passenger of the Rover (was not wearing a seatbelt), a 48-year-old passenger of the Rover (was not wearing a seatbelt), a 49-year-old passenger of the Rover (severely injured, was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 36-year-old passenger of the Rover (was not wearing a seatbelt). The accident was caused by the 26-year-old driver of the Rover (less than a year of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.94‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
