On Sunday, 24 August 2014, in the morning at around 10:00, in Vilkaviškio district municipality, on the Vištytis–Varteliai regional road (kilometre 8.20), a Mercedes-Benz 300 registered in Russia ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 26-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (a citizen of Russia) (less than a year of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
