On Tuesday, 28 October 2014, in the afternoon at 16:50, in Marijampolės municipality, on Gedimino street, at the junction with Vasaros street, a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Opel Omega registered in Germany and a Nissan Almera. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 31-year-old driver of the Opel (14 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed and entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (1.75‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA).
