On Monday, 3 August 2015, in the afternoon at 13:42, in Trakų district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 25), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Honda Civic and a Volkswagen Passat. Three people were injured — a 29-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient), a 21-year-old passenger of the Honda (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 32-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 27-year-old driver of the Honda, who entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (2.28‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
