On Sunday, 27 September 2015, in the morning at 10:25, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Varėna–Nedzingė–Merkinė regional road (kilometre 25), a Volkswagen Passat rolled over. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 42-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who committed other traffic rule violations and failed to choose a safe speed. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
